Launched in 1992, the whole range still sported Subaru's trademark frameless windows and distinctive sounding fourcam boxer engine, but it was the Turbo's earth shattering performance which impressed.

This compact conservatively styled saloon totally rewrote the performance car rulebook, mating secure sure-footed handling and rifle-bolt gearchange to the sort of blistering straight-line pace that humbles Ferraris and Porsches. Amazingly it was also well built, reliable, and at £17,499, a bargain. Nothing was faster point-to-point: the 1990s true hero car.

It replaced the Talbot Horizon, Solara and Alpine on the British production lines, and 837,520 examples were produced world-wide before production ceased in 1993. Based on the 205 floorpan, but stretched by 330mm, the 309GTI is famed for its brilliant ride and handling balance. Many felt that the minor 70kg weight penalty of the bigger car was a price worth paying for its improved stability.

He saw the racing potential in his friend Issigonis's nimble economy car, the Mini, and after building a prototype, persuaded BMC to build the 1000 cars needed for homologation.
BMC agreed to pay Cooper £2 per car for the use of his prestigious name, and the Austin Seven Cooper (and Morris Mini Cooper) were launched on 20th September 1961. The Austin version officially became the Mini-Cooper in January 1962. BMC worried it wouldn't sell but high profile motor sport success soon meant it became the classless car everyone wanted.

However after less than two years the engine was returned to Thetford and subsequently sold to Pat Collins, the price paid was £1100, a good deal less than the brand new price of £2500.

It has now been owned by its present owner Bill Hunt for over 50 years. The engine is unique in that it was finished in yellow with cream wheels, the only Burrell Showman's to be finished in this livery and one of only three engines not finished in the standard shade of red, the other two being 3526 Lightning II and 4000 Ex-Mayor, both previously modeled by Corgi.

The engine worked for some time in the original yellow paint but later was painted in the more traditional red. In 1946 a new firebox was fitted but less than a year later the engine was taken out of use and lay in Pat Collins's yard in Bloxwich until 1955 when it was purchased by Bill Hunt when Collins started to sell off and scrap his remaining engines.

The engine remained untouched until 2003 when it was moved to Dingles Museum, where a team led by Clive Gibbard restored the road locomotive. Work was completed in 2009 and she can now be seen in her original glory.

The Corgi Vintage Glory of Steam range represents a collection of nostalgic models from bygone days of steam transport and features legendary names like Foden, Burrell, Fowler and Garrett.

Perfect for every steam rally enthusiast, each 1:50 scale die-cast traction engine is supplied in a Vintage Glory of Steam branded box and its limited edition certificate.

Four identical coaches were transferred to 'the Shires' in 1998 for use on Green Line 758 between Hemel Hempstead and London Victoria. The model is presented in the latest Green Line livery by Best Impressions which 4063 received in 2006. Registered M943 LYR 4063 was one of the last coaches delivered to Grey Green before the business completed its switch to London contracted bus operation and was subsequently absorbed into Arriva London; ending a sequence of Grey Green registration numbers which began with SJJ 300 a Leyland Tiger Cub/ Harrington in 1956. Smooth-riding and solidly-built 4063 is likely to receive enhancements which will enable it to continue to run into London after July 2008 when unmodified Euro 1 vehicles will be excluded from the London Low Emission Zone.

Their name comes from The Great Western Railway by transferring its bus services in South and West Wales to the company. The railway interest passed to the British Transport Commission in 1948, but Western Welsh was not fully nationalised until 1967 when BET sold its bus interests to the Transport Holding Company.
The company passed to the National Bus Company (NBC) in 1969. In 1970 and 1971 the NBC transferred Western Welsh’s operations west of Bridgend to its subsidiaries South Wales Transport and Crosville. Western Welsh also took over the operations of Rhondda Transport.
In 1978 the National Bus Company transferred the operations of its subsidiary Red and White Bus Services to Western Welsh and renamed the merged company National Welsh.

Although it used much of the floorpan and suspension of the 1972-77 MkI, the body and interior were new, as were the pushrod V6 engines; German designed 'Cologne' units. The 2.8-litre power plant was 22kgs lighter than its 3.0-litre 'Essex' predecessor as well as being more economical, producing more power and revving more freely. The 2-litre, four cylinder models used the, by then, well proven 'Pinto' OHC unit.

The Granada MkII range was substantially updated in 1981 and in production until 1985, by which time Ford’s Cologne plant had produced 639,440 examples.

Despite a good result in New Zealand (using a Group A Sierra) Colin's season was peppered with crashes, mainly because the 'showroom' 300bhp Group N Cosworth lacked the brakes and chassis to handle its power.

A move into the even more powerful, but better handling, Group A car modelled here seemed perverse initially but produced three impressive drives that showed Colin had the pace and stability to be quicker than his Dad in identical machinery; Colin really had a future in top flight rallying.
The McRae/Ringer Sierra Cosworth is modelled as it started the 1989 RAC Rally. The pair used the same car on the Manx, retiring from third place when a differential casing cracked, and on the Audi Sport Rally where they finished third overall. Although hopes were high on starting the RAC, they rolled gently on SS13 then, in Keilder, crashed out of the rally into another parked Sierra which had been caught out by the same tricky bend.

The pair repeated their triumph on the British Championship, winning all 6 events, but also contested 6 World Rally Championship events, most notably finishing 2nd in Sweden.

In the car modelled here, McRae and Ringer led the opening Welsh loop of their home event, the RAC. However, the need to take avoiding action during a road section, after encountering a Range Rover coming towards them on their side of the road, led to damage that ultimately saw the pair slip to a disappointing 6th place. In 1992 long time RAC Rally Sponsors Lombard put up a prize of £100,000 for any British driver who could win the event outright and for a while it looked as if McRae might be able to claim that prize...

Colin’s flamboyant, sideways driving style, whether on the snows of Sweden, the rocky unforgiving roads of the Acropolis or on the ultimate challenge through the Sahara on the Dakar, endeared him to fans and rivals around the world.

Colin McRae Motorsport Ltd & Corgi have teamed up to produce a collection of 1:43 scale die-cast replica models as a lasting memorial to Colin McRae MBE. The full collection of 14 models will be released between 2009 and the end of 2011.

Driving the car modelled here, McRae and Grist started 2001 well, leading the Monte Carlo Rally until the Focus’s fly-by-wire throttle system failed on the last day. Similar problems blighted their next three rallies so with zero points after four events the pair simply had to start winning to keep any championship hopes alive, and they did; scoring back to back wins on Rounds 5, 6 and 7 in Argentina, Cyprus, and Greece then finishing 3rd in Finland and 2nd in New Zealand. However the duo failed to score in the next three events meaning the last round of an exciting season was crucial.

McRae and Grist started the 2001 season’s final round, The Rally of Great Britain, leading the Championship with 42 points, followed by Tommi Mäkinen on 41 and Richard Burns on 40. McRae
looked quick from the off, winning the Superspecial and taking an early lead as Mäkinen crashed out. Burns was fourth. However, later that day, McRae dropped a wheel too far into a cut on a fast 5th gear corner and rolled the Focus heavily which resulted in retirement. Burns then drove a steady event to finish 3rd and clinch the Championship by 2 points.

Gene Hunt’s immortal catchphrase has entered British culture with the time-travelling detective series capturing the public’s imagination, like its predecessor ‘Life on Mars’. The iconic mars-red Audi quattro was as much of a star as actors Philip Glenister and Keeley Hawes but, like the characters, was out of its true time zone. Although the Quattro was launched at the Geneva Motorshow in March 1980, and European left-hand-drive deliveries started that October, right-hand-drive UK specification Quattros were not available until late 1982, 18 months after Gene Hunt is depicted driving one around London! The car was as impossible as the series’ premise; but just as wonderful.

A true eighties icon it had the street swagger only World Rally Championship domination could bestow. Even in road going trim it was a 5-cylinder, turbocharged monster of a car with bulging wheel-arches, cool alloys and an air of invincibility; crooks knew they couldn’t outrun a quattro, especially Hunt’s mars-red car. It was the perfect car for the tough cop dedicated to clearing the streets of ‘scum’. As the last episode of the series slowly unravels the central mystery of ‘The Guv’ and his team’s very existence, Hunt successfully lures them back for one last job to ambush jewel thieves at an airfield. A team of cars, including the Ford Granada Mk2 squad car modelled here, surround the area and Hunt begins the attack by dropping the Quattro into the centre of the action with one of his signature handbrake turns. The car is soon shot to pieces by the heavily armed gang prompting him to shout “Oi you! I’m arresting you for murdering my car” then shooting them. The Quattro is modelled here as it appeared in its final scene, riddled with bullet holes and, like all good heroes, going down fighting.
