Corgi VA11501 Triumph TR4A - Black Description
The 1961 TR4 was essentially a stylish new body on a TR3 chassis. However, as the sixties began to swing, that live rear axle chassis began to date, so with much money recently invested in body-tooling, Triumph decided to design a new chassis with independent rear suspension (IRS) to fit under their existing body/engine.
The resulting TR4A was launched in 1965 and except for the grille, wing-mounted sidelights and ‘TR4A IRS’ badge, looked identical, although the driving experience was much improved. It worked - 28,465 were produced in two years before Triumph created the TR5 by fitting their new 2.5-litre 6-cylinder engine to the TR4A in 1967.
